Cavendish C of E VC Primary School

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are used to measure progress and celebrate children's achievements in their learning. These include Assessment for Learning (AfL) techniques which are used daily by classteachers to ensure that teaching meets the needs of each child, and that children themselves know how to improve and extend their learning. Questions, marking, feedback, discussion and observations are an invaluable part of this process, as is discussion amongst staff themselves.

In addition children take part in series of more formal tests which provide an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skills mastered. Some of these are statutory.

Sharing information with parents

At Cavendish School we value and recognise the supportive role parents and carers have. Details of your child's progress is shared formally through Parents' Evenings in the Autumn and Spring Terms, and through a detailed written report, including statutory assessment results in the Summer Term.

The Autumn term meeting outlines expectation for the year ahead and gives guidance on how you can support your child to achieve their targets. We also request that home information about your child is returned at this meeting to support the one page profile which accompanies each child's personalised provsion map. These detail extension and support groups attended.

Personal targets as well as a range of information about the curriculum can be found towards the back of your child's planner. In addition classteachers are available at the end of each day for informal discussion. We welcome meetings at other times and these are easily made by telephoning the school office for an appointment.

Children in receipt of Pupil Premium or who benefit from SEN Support are offered additional meetings with Miss Wass.

Parental workshops are scheduled throughout the year to offer further guidance on how best to support your child in specific subjects.
